Von der Draisine zum Vélocipède
Das erste Zweirad und damit der Vorläufer des Fahrrades war die 1817 von Karl Drais erfundene «Laufmaschine» mit lenkbarem Vorderrad. Sie wurde umgangssprachlich nach ihm Draisine genannt und bestand aus einem zweirädrigen Holzgestell, mit dem eine Geschwindigkeit von bis zu 15?Kilometer in der Stunde erreicht werden konnte. Allerdings verfügte sie noch über keine Pedale, sodass sich der Fahrer mit den Füssen vom Boden abstossen musste. Erst im Jahre 1864 wurden die ersten Fahrräder mit einem Pedalantrieb entwickelt. Allerdings ist bis heute ungeklärt, wem diese Erfindung zuzuschreiben ist. Fest steht aber, dass 1869 unter dem Franzosen Pierre Michaux das sogenannte «Vélocipède» erstmals industriell hergestellt wurde.
