The saddlery trade served as the inspiration behind this collection and the range of its models are never purely decorative but incorporate functionality as well. This new message on luxury is in keeping with the principals of the Salvatore Ferragamo DNA and is characterized by its extraordinary blend of natural textures and metal details, raw and precious materials, neutral colours and graphic finishes.
The constructions are complex, as the ultra-flat sandal, which utilizes the metal fittings from a horse’s headstall to wrap the foot with bands of soft nappa leather fastened together by buckles reminiscent of bridles. The leather Opanca sole – a tribute to one of the Maison’s classic icons – matches the colour of the upper and is profiled by exquisitely small interwoven threading, a leitmotif of the entire collection. Exclusive pieces feature the open-toe crocodile ankle boot with an entirely hand threaded sole, made out of a single cut for heel and upper, or ultra-feminine models like the ankle pump that fastens at the ankle with ultra-soft leather straps. Or again, the summer boot re-invented in a range of sensual boot-sandal hybrids, cuissardes and new sandals that accentuate the leg with the geometrical cut and equestrian style criss-cross lacing. The exquisite finishes applied to vegetable tanned leathers, such as cowhide, suede and nappa, as well as exotic skins like crocodile and python lend an allure of warm and sensuous luxury. All these products are enhanced with metallic accessories especially distressed to lend the appearance of a natural wear and usage. The palette of colours spans a range to include impalpably neutral tones and sidereal greys, from Champagne to Luna, from Ash to Corda and Desert, and also includes elegant modulations of dark green, as in Fossil, the metallic gleaming of Dorato and the graphic intensity of Nero.

A new dimension within the world of luxury is opened up by the quintessence of virtuoso craftsmanship and extreme sophistication in the choice of leathers, with special attention to those which have been vegetable tanned. The unmistakable references to equestrian images are evoked by details on bags with textured surfaces for adventurous women. Like the oversized hobo (in her hand), which has the metal fitting of a bridle on the rib. Coming in natural feel cowhide, this is covered with extremely fine double-threading (handcrafted "micro-mignon") and in an even more exclusive version has entirely hand-stitched embroidery creating a slightly padded effect. Smaller and designed to wear like a bandolier is the vegetable tanned leather postman. This has a very feminine allure and features jacquard fabric profiled with mini-studs, embroidered leather with a padded effect or python. In the over dimension, there’s a soft bag made of calfskins (matte or with a sumptuous suede feel) with nappa piping, while the bowling bag is based on a traditional travel bag and updated with smooth leathers or 3D embroidery. This is a concept of relaxed elegance that’s also expressed in models like the small saddle bag combining canvas and leather or coming in cowhide decorated with metal plates.

Lastly, a hypnotic snake, the Chinese star sign for 2013, has its skin decorated with beads and tiny patterns. Extreme sophistication defines the bijoux items, which combine metals, coloured resins, mother of pearl and semi-precious stones. Transparencies interact with unexpected colours, such as turquoise, coral and opalescent yellow, creating trompe l’oeil effects.
